It is mostly used to eliminate the fractures and the cosmetic disadvantages resulting from lighter positional or formal digression in the upper frontal teeth.
It concerns only the visible parts of the teeth, the tooth surfaces closer to the lips. For this reason, during preparing the shell much less healthy tooth substance must be sacrificed than in the other case of a crown which covers the whole tooth. The ceramic shell can be nearly absolutely identical with the neighbouring teeth both in colour and in semi-transparency. Since it is made of pressed ceramics, in this category this version is considered to be the etalon for its aesthetic appearance and its durability which results from its high precision in fitting.
Advantage: aesthetic, durable precision in fitting.
Disadvantage: its technological demands make it costly, at least 2 occasions are necessary (1. preparation, taking impression 2. gluing in)
