Pregnancy results in a number of changes that affect the teeth and the composition of the saliva. Since these factors may increase the tendency of decay and gum problems, one must pay attention to this both in the form of mouth hygiene and when treating the mutations. In the lack of all these, the result can be rapid tooth decay during the pregnancy, and later on, during breastfeeding, too.
Although there is no difference in the method of the treatment between pregnancy and non-pregnancy, we still have to reconsider the applied ingredients, the ways of diagnosing (i.e. low radiating digital X-ray) and scheduling the intervention to pay attention to the embryo, since the influences might affect the baby as well as the pregnant woman.
Therefore interventions are recommended to be completed in the first trimester, and this way only maintainer treatments or controls are needed, if required.
